Established in 2007 TDF is based at Bedford Autodrome in a 6000 sqft building equipped for the support and development of racing cars and the delivery of high performance engineering to our OEM customers. TDF is one of the few companies in the world capable of supporting a modern era F1 car in full GP specification. Our senior staff have all worked in F1 at the highest level, in both race team and factory roles before joining TDF and our experience and expertise with cutting edge motorsport technology and methology shows in everything we do as a business. Car Build and Support:
TDF has rebuilt to running condition over 30 F1 cars. The company has also been responsible for numerous other competition vehicles from historic single seaters to modern GT and touring cars competing in both endurance and sprint motorsport. In addition we have assisted a number of OEM manufacturers with prototype build, production prototype build, testing and development. Our unique mix of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic engineering skills coupled with our experience of very high level, time critical motorsport and our in house design, inspection and manufacture facilities has allowed us to consistently deliver success. Our facility at Bedford Autodrome provides us with a 3500sqft open plan car build and support workshop with eight dedicated bays complete with their own storage and IT.
TDF is well known for developing custom and specific electronic control solutions for both motorsport and road car applications. From DBW throttle control to gear control, data logging to historically sympathetic upgrades and low volume control solutions for OEMs. Recent projects have included a complete, bespoke gear and clutch control system for Moog controlled F1 gearboxes/clutches, stand alone hydraulic "fly by wire" clutch control, stand alone retrofit "fly by wire" throttle control and live telemetry via the 3G/4G network for an endurace race car program. We also maintain one of the only, if not the only, Marelli STEP F1 electronics labs remaining with support for STEP6 and STEP8 F1 electronics. In addition we have in house capability for wiring loom design, manufacture and modification to MIL and F1 standards.
Design, R&D and Inspection:
Our in house design department is responsible for developing new F1 level parts to replace missing or damaged components, or for new applications or configurations for use both in house and by third parties. The design department also assists other businesses and race teams/manufacturers with their design requirements and new product development. Drawing heavily on current technology and Formula 1 ethos the department is equipped with two rapid prototyping/3D printing stations for exceptionally fast geometrically accurate test part production in addition to multiple inspection and test tools including an OGP Smartscope ZIP 250 with CMM probing. The design department uses Autodesk products exclusively for design, modelling and FEA allowing it to quickly go from model to mill.
TDFs manufacturing department has three and four axis CNC milling capability along with CNC turning capability via its combination of HAAS milling and turning centres. TDF work closely with HAAS for production of bespoke machines to meet its requirements and benefit greatly from this technical partnership which allows the manufacturing department to produce highly complex, tight tolerance parts quickly and efficently for both in house projects and for other businesses and race teams/manufacturers. Like the design department the manufcaturing department uses Autodesk products exclusively for CAM, GCode production and machining simulation.
Team TDF, the TDF Race Team have a combined experience of over five decades of competition in BTCC, WTCC, LMP, FIA GT, F3 and F1 with over a decades experience in modern F1. The team currently run a variety of Ex F1 machinery in demo and competition along with several historic and endurance race cars competing throughout Europe. The team prides itself on it's ability to bring F1 levels of ability, experience and technical understanding to any form of competition it is involved with.
